Whiplash often occurs in car accidents, especially those in which you are rear-ended. 

These signs and symptoms of whiplash may occur immediately following the initial injury or may not occur until minutes to hours later. The sooner after the injury that symptoms develop, the greater the probability that serious damage has been done.
